FOODPHOTO FESTIVAL EXHIBITION 2017

Vejle Feb 9, 2025

Food photography expresses the need and the culture of every generation. Food always speaks volumes about the spirit of the age and the mood of our society at any point in time. In Western society, the culinary arts have increasingly become an expression of lifestyle; the culture of gatherings and human experiences is now unimaginable without the “act of cooking”.

Going back in history - from the Old Dutch Masters oil paintings through the exhibition of Spanish Chef Ferran Adria as an artist at the Documenta 12 - food has always been a subject of art.

In the FOODPHOTO ART EXHIBITION it becomes strikingly clear that food photography has changed our food aesthetics. Just like other areas of photography, food photography has evolved at a breakneck pace.

Initially, the portrayal of food tended towards baroque still life and an ambience rich in detail. Later in the late 1980’s, the presentation was more abstract and somehow more “alienated”, with the focus on small details or unusual food.

Today´s food photos show minimalist dishes in which the structure of the individual components are elaborately artful.

The FOODPHOTO ART EXHIBITION 2017 shows the work of 86 international photographers.
